THE UCA WAY
"Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say ‘WE ARE UCA’" (taken from the famous Bill Shankly quote about Liverpool FC)
We at UCA believe this Bill Shankly quote embodies the philosophies of everyone involved with the program.
Team First, Individual Second: Nothing is more precious than the program. We want our players to be rewarded for their accomplishments on and off the field, but none of that would be possible without the rest of the team. Furthermore, we believe that a group, bought - in with the same vision and dedication, can accomplish much more than any one or two individuals. It is vital to our success that each player exhibits “team first” every day in the classroom, at home, in the community, and on the field.
Character, Sacrifice, Development: The UCA soccer player will hold strong to good character, sacrifice for his team and community, and strive to make the most of his student-athlete experience. Good character is defined as professionalism on the field, in the classroom, and at home. Respect the program and your teammates with your decisions. Sacrifice means putting the team first always and making school and soccer your first priorities. Development means you leave UCA with a degree, ready and responsible to take the next step in life, whether that is graduate school, a full-time job, or professional soccer opportunities.
